Discussion Forum for Assignment 1: Introduction into" Innovation in the English Language Teaching" Training

Dear Access instructors, 

To get actively involved: 

a. the Discussion Moderator will have to start a Conversation thread (discussion) on Blended Learning topic by Wednesday.  


b. the Conversation wrapper will end up  the Conversation thread by Sunday, by making general conclusion of the colleagues' shared opinions as answers to the Moderator's prompt. 

c. each  participant will offer feedback to 3 comments of  their 3 different colleagues ( 1 comment for 1 colleague) by Saturday.

    A great advantage of using blended instruction in ACCESS classes is the access to the majority of global resources and materials which meet student's level of knowledge and interest.

      Thank you for pointing out another advantage of Blending Learning in classes: "the access to the majority of global resources and materials".
      As a teacher I meet sometimes the difficulty to provide materials that would meet students’ interest. Definitely Blending Instruction can be one of the solutions to this issue.

      I choose the blended learning because it involves the Internet/ digital media activities and face-to-face classroom methods, too.

      I share your view regarding the advantages the Blending Learning can bring into our lessons. And though it may be time consuming at the biginning, it will surely improve teacher - students relationship and introduce variety in the teaching -learning process.

    I have the pleasure of writing to you about the blending methodology of teaching. This style of tutoring offers the students the possibility of combining learning and having fun. The pupils are able to use the technology without losing the important face-to-face connection with the teachers.       I have graduated school many years ago and tend to think more like a teacher and less like students.

Dear Mihai and Mrs. Corina, this is a real pleasure to see that we are all from the Northern part of our country and we also have such an honor to be involved into a ttemendous process of studying nice things about learning and teaching new things. It is also nice to present and share the experiences as well.
    Moreover, the brand new notion for our system of teaching , Blended Learning, makes me talk about the approach that presupposes differentiated approach, along with the involving and motivatin activites, that make us be permanently on the wave and of help.

    My name is Daria, I am the Access Teacher in Hincesti.

    Since the topic of this week is "Blinding Teaching" I would like to share with you my experience in this area. The Access students I am working with had a variety of assignments that involves both, face - to - face and on-line training: Skype lessons, creating posters in Glogster, providing comments in vocaroo.com, brainstorming ideas for different projects through Spype, etc.
    Though at first it may be frustrating, students showed a high level of interest in using the new technology and Internet tools in pperforming these tasks.

      I would like to mention that I’m also an Access teacher, and my Access students from Grigoriopol are involved in the same kind of activities.
      I’m really proud of them. Some of students are very exciting and independent, and they are willingly involved in such kind of activities, but, also I have some students who have a lack of technical abilities and linguistic skills.

      I think blended learning activities really contributes to advance students skills and to exceed their limits on using the technical tools and online media.

    Hello everybody!
    Taking into account all that ACCESS instructors have told about the advantages of using Blended Instruction in your Access classes, we can say that it's much more useful than regular learning, indeed. Even though students might show not a high level of interest at the beginning, they eventually get used to this type of learning. They get this strong will to learn. Blended Instruction contributes to developing students' skills to communicate and to use online tools in order to always learn something new. So, this type of learning is efficient both for students and for teachers.

    I'm Svetlana, ACCESS Causeni teacher and happy to be a part of ACCESS Moldova team.
    Talking about the advantages of blended learning activities, I can surely say that it gives us, teachers and teacher assistants great opportunity in improving English skills of our students, allow our students to progress at their own way using technology in the classrooms.

    1. Hi Svetlana,
      We are currently doing a technology survey of our instructors to find out their opinions on blended, vs onsite, vs totally online courses, I'm very excited to hear the results. Personally, I am a strong advocate of blended and online courses, however, for teenagers I prefer to blended to the online. I think relationships are easier to build with teens onsite, however, they love the technology - so combining the two is a great solution!

    2. dear Sheryl, completely agree.. Our world is changing daily, so modern tehnologies are not something we like or we don't . They are a part of our life nowadays, and I think each of us, as a good teacher, should follow this modern world and its innovative creations. We should adapt our classes nowadays to the modern life, so they could be not just useful, but also interesting to our students :-).

    3. Dear Svetlana, I think the two of us are on the same page, which is such a pleasure! At my University in the US some professors are very hesitant to use any technology, they like the traditional ways of teaching and are not confident in new instructional strategies that use technology. I feel that they need to start taking some risks and spending time learning about technology or they will become obsolete.

    I have atually used a type of blended learning activity
    that was easy to use for everyone, as Chats, Facebook
    group, Skype Chat... that have been really useful for
    the Access students while doing their homework, dicussing
    some ideas of the projects, telling news, sharing websites.
    I think that using modern tech, is a necessity, a fast way
    to communicate with students and to find out what are their problems
    in learning English, mistakes and a easy and fast method to solve them..
    So, I believe that both, the face-to-face and blended learning should
    be used in the Access classes to offer the student the possibility
    to study English in an interenting environment (online + offline) that they
    use to like.

    1. Dear Gheorghe, You bring up a good point when you say that technology helps us quickly respond to students errors and helps them solve problems. Instead of having to wait a day or two to get a response from a teacher, with technology students may receive a response in hours. I agree with you on the blended classrooms for teenagers, I think the combination makes most sense in order to meet this needs.
